Abstract
*** Thin film of Ni-TiAlN/Si3N4 composite has been formed by electrodeposition method on Tungsten Carbide substrate. Total of 5ml electrolyte solution consisting of 4 gr/l AlN, 4 gr/l TiN, 0.49 M H3BO3, 0.17 M NiCl2.6H2O, 0.38 M NiSO4.6H2O, 1.2 gr/l Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (NaC12H25SO4), and 10 gr/l Si3N4. The coating process lasts for 15 minutes with an electric voltage of 12V and variations in electrical current of 3mA, 4mA and 5mA. The purpose of this study was to determine the crystal structure, composition, morphology, and the hardness of composite film with electric current as variations of study parameter. The electrodes system using Tungsten Carbide as the working electrode (cathode), Pt as the counter electrode (anode), and AgCl as the reference electrode (anode). Based on the results of characterization of Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS), the greater electric current makes the surface morphology of the coated substrate more smooth, less agglomeration and more abundant the metal composition coating and matrix. Based on the results of X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) characterization and Vickers hardness test, variations in electric current have an effect on the size of the crystal grain and influenced the hardness value of the composite thin film material formed.
