Abstract
***** Fire jet nozzle is an important component in a firefighting system that functions to direct water flow toward the fire source. However, conventional fire jet nozzle designs still have several limitations, including leakage potential at connection points, a relatively high number of components, and the use of brass material with considerable weight, which affects efficiency and assembly processes. This study aims to redesign the fire jet nozzle using the Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) method by implementing Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) material, reducing the number of components, and developing an improved connection system to minimize leakage. The research method was conducted through literature studies, Computer Aided Design (CAD)-based design development, prototype fabrication, and performance analysis of the proposed design. The results showed that the number of components was successfully reduced from three to two through design simplification. In addition, the implementation of a coupling machino combined with a male-female mechanism produced a tighter connection with lower leakage potential. The use of CFRP also resulted in a lighter fire jet nozzle design compared to brass material. Based on the results, the DFMA-based redesign successfully improved assembly efficiency, minimized leakage potential, and enhanced the overall performance of the fire jet nozzle.
