Abstract

Olahraga esports, khususnya pada game bergenre Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA), menuntut gerakan manuver jari yang sangat cepat, repetitif, dan durasi bermain yang ekstrem. Tingginya beban mekanis pada area pergelangan tangan ini memicu mikrotrauma dan pembengkakan tendon yang berisiko menekan saraf medianus, atau yang dikenal sebagai Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui gambaran kejadian dan tingkat keparahan CTS pada atlet esports MOBA di bawah naungan Pengurus Cabang Esports Indonesia (ESI) Kota Cirebon. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain studi kasus. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan menggunakan teknik total sampling dengan total 20 responden atlet laki-laki (usia 17–26 tahun). Pengumpulan data dilakukan secara daring melalui kuesioner baku Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) yang terdiri dari Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) dan Functional Status Scale (FSS). Data dianalisis secara deskriptif persentase. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 11 atlet (55,0%) telah mengalami gejala CTS (SSS) mulai dari tingkat ringan hingga parah, dengan keluhan dominan berupa nyeri pergelangan tangan pada malam hari dan rasa kesemutan. Pada pengukuran status fungsional (FSS), sebanyak 7 atlet (35,0%) melaporkan mulai mengalami kesulitan motorik pada aktivitas sehari-hari, khususnya saat menulis, membuka tutup stoples, dan membawa beban. Tingginya angka keluhan ini sejalan dengan temuan bahwa 35,0% atlet memiliki durasi bermain yang sangat ekstrem, yakni di atas 35 jam per minggu. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa profesi atlet esports memiliki paparan risiko cedera fisik yang nyata terhadap disfungsi saraf pergelangan tangan. Kesadaran akan pentingnya batasan maksimal durasi bermain dan rutinitas peregangan sangat diperlukan guna memberikan waktu pemulihan jaringan dan mencegah kerusakan saraf yang lebih parah. Esports, particularly Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) games, require extremely fast and repetitive finger maneuvers alongside extreme playing durations. The high mechanical load on the wrist area triggers microtrauma and tendon swelling, which risks compressing the median nerve, a condition commonly known as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). This study aims to describe the incidence and severity level of CTS among MOBA esports athletes under the Esports Indonesia (ESI) Branch of Cirebon City. This research utilized a case study design. Sampling was conducted using a total sampling technique, involving a total of 20 male athletes (aged 17–26 years) as respondents. Data were collected online using the standardized Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ), which consists of the Symptom Severity Scale (SSS) and the Functional Status Scale (FSS). The data were analyzed using descriptive percentages via a spreadsheet application. The results showed that 11 athletes (55.0%) had experienced CTS symptoms (SSS) ranging from mild to severe levels, with the dominant complaints being nocturnal wrist pain and tingling sensations. In terms of functional status (FSS), 7 athletes (35.0%) reported experiencing motor difficulties in their daily activities, especially when writing, opening jar lids, and carrying heavy loads. This high rate of complaints aligns with the finding that 35.0% of the athletes had extreme playing durations of over 35 hours per week. It can be concluded that the esports athlete profession holds a tangible physical injury risk toward wrist nerve dysfunction. Awareness of the importance of maximum playing duration limits and stretching routines is highly necessary to provide adequate tissue recovery time and prevent more severe nerve damage.
