Abstract
ABSTRAK Aisyah Mumtaz Sabrina. Representasi Wanita dalam Buku Sejarah Nasional Indonesia Jilid VI: Zaman Jepang dan Zaman Republik. Skripsi. Jakarta: Program Studi Pendidikan Sejarah, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial dan Hukum, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. 2026. Representation of Women in the Book Sejarah Nasional Indonesia Volume VI: Zaman Jepang dan Zaman Republik. Bachelor Thesis. Jakarta: Historical Education Study Program, Faculty of Social Science and Law, Jakarta State University. 2026. This study examines the representation of women in Sejarah Nasional Indonesia (SNI) Volume VI: Zaman Jepang dan Zaman Republik Indonesia, authored by Sartono Kartodirdjo, Marwati Djoened Poesponegoro, and Nugroho Notosusanto, positioning SNI as an object of historiographical study conceived since the 1957 National History Seminar and first published in 1975. This research is a historiographical critique employing qualitative content analysis of the SNI Volume VI updated edition (Balai Pustaka), rather than a reconstruction of historical events. The method follows four stages—heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography—using a descriptive-analytical approach grounded in Stuart Hall’s theory of representation and historical feminism. The study’s temporal boundary is the period of SNI Volume VI’s compilation and publication (1957– 2008), while the 1942–1950 period constitutes the content scope of the object under study, not the research’s temporal boundary. Findings show that women are represented in three limited forms: instrumental, collective-anonymous, and domestic. Of seven women figures identified as active during 1942–1950, only Fatmawati is mentioned individually in the SNI Volume VI narrative, and even then solely in the context of sewing the sacred flag and accompanying Sukarno-Hatta. Maria Ulfah Santoso, the sole female member of the Investigating Committee for Preparatory Work for Indonesian Independence (BPUPKI), is entirely absent from the narrative on the formulation of the state foundation. A search of SNI Volume VI’s name index further found that Rasuna Said, Andi Depu, and the organizations PERWARI, Kowani, Laswi, and Barisan Srikandi are entirely unrecorded, while Fujinkai is mentioned only within the framework of Japanese wartime mobilization. These limitations reflect a patriarchal historiographic paradigm reinforced by the New Order’s State Ibuism ideology. This research recommends the development of a more inclusive Indonesian historiography regarding women’s representation in history education. Keywords: gender history, historiography, Indonesian National History, State Ibuism, women’s representation
