Abstract
***** This study aims to examine the effect of using a Virtual Reality Laboratory (VRL) on students’ flow experience in the topic of fundamental laws of chemistry. This quantitative, quasi-experimental study utilized a nonequivalent (pretest-posttest) control group design involving 70 tenth-grade students at a public high school in East Jakarta. Two intact classes were selected through purposive sampling into experimental and control groups. Students in the experimental group learned using the VRL, while the control group used demonstration videos. Flow experience was measured using the five-point Likert Short Flow State Scale (SFSS) administered before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, and paired samples t-test (α = 0.05). The results showed a significant increase in flow experience for both groups, as indicated by a paired samples t-test (p = 0.000). However, the VRL group achieved a higher increase in flow experience (M = 38.49). The use of VRL yielded an effect size categorized as a very strong effect (d = 1.66). These findings indicate that the VRL is an effective chemistry learning medium in enhancing students’ flow experience and has the potential to support the implementation of innovative, immersive, and technology-adaptive learning.
