Abstract

***** This study aimed to determine the effect of implementing the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) model on students' learning outcomes in the topic of the Fundamental Laws of Chemistry. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique at a public senior high school in Jakarta during the 2025/2026 academic year. Data were collected through pretests and posttests using a valid and reliable learning outcomes test instrument. The data were analyzed using the Shapiro–Wilk test, Levene's test, the Mann–Whitney U test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, N-Gain analysis, and effect size. The results showed that the Mann–Whitney U test yielded an Exact Sig. (1-tailed) value of 0.020 (< 0.05), indicating a significant difference in learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. The N-Gain analysis revealed that the improvement in the experimental group (0.612) was higher than that of the control group (0.477), although both were classified as moderate. Furthermore, the effect size calculated using effect size (r) was 0.270, indicating a small effect. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the Process Oriented Guided Inquiry Learning (POGIL) model had a significant effect on students' learning outcomes in the topic of the Fundamental Laws of Chemistry.
