Abstract

Penyandang Down Syndrome sering mengalami hambatan dalam aktivitas berpakaian secara mandiri akibat kondisi hipotonia, kelonggaran sendi, serta keterbatasan koordinasi motorik dan keseimbangan tubuh, sementara produk busana yang tersedia di pasaran belum mengakomodasi kebutuhan tersebut secara khusus. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan desain celana inklusif bagi penyandang Down Syndrome. Metode yang digunakan adalah Research and Development (R&D) dengan pendekatan Human-Centered Design dan model Design Thinking yang mencakup tahap Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, dan Test. Subjek penelitian adalah penyandang Down Syndrome laki-laki usia 15-27 tahun di SLB C Kyriakon beserta pihak pendamping. Kriteria desain dirumuskan berdasarkan kerangka teori Functional, Expressive, Aesthetic (FEA) menurut Lamb dan Kallal serta Motor Control menurut Shumway-Cook dan Woollacott, menghasilkan lima alternatif desain dengan variasi sistem bukaan. Kelayakan desain dinilai melalui expert testing yang melibatkan lima panelis ahli lintas bidang keilmuan, menggunakan instrumen rating scale disertai observasi langsung terhadap pengguna saat mengenakan prototipe. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kelima desain dinyatakan layak hingga sangat layak digunakan, dengan indikasi mendukung stabilitas tubuh, koordinasi gerak, serta kemandirian pengguna dibandingkan celana konvensional. Meskipun demikian, aspek kemudahan meraih dan menggenggam elemen bukaan (reach, grasp, and manipulation) masih menjadi titik lemah pada kelima desain, sehingga memerlukan penyempurnaan lebih lanjut. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa pendekatan Design Thinking serta kriteria FEA dan Motor Control dapat digunakan sebagai kerangka pengembangan produk busana adaptif yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan spesifik penyandang Down Syndrome. Kata kunci: Celana Inklusif, Design Thinking, Down Syndrome, Motor Control ***** People with Down syndrome often face challenges in dressing themselves due to hypotonia, joint laxity, and limitations in motor coordination and balance, while clothing products currently available on the market do not specifically accommodate these needs. This study aims to develop an inclusive pants design for individuals with Down syndrome. The method used is Research and Development (R&D) with a Human-Centered Design approach and the Design Thinking model, which includes the stages of Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. The research subjects were males with Down syndrome aged 15–27 years at SLB C Kyriakon, with caregivers. Design criteria were formulated based on the Functional, Expressive, Aesthetic (FEA) theoretical framework according to Lamb and Kallal, as well as the Motor Control framework according to Shumway-Cook and Woollacott, resulting in five design alternatives with variations in the opening system. Design feasibility was assessed through expert testing involving five expert panelists across disciplines, using a rating scale along with direct observation of users while wearing the prototypes. The results showed that all five designs were rated as feasible to highly feasible, with indications that they support body stability, movement coordination, and user independence compared to conventional pants. However, the ease of reaching, grasping, and manipulating the opening elements remains a weak point in all five designs, needing refinement. This study concludes that the Design Thinking approach, along with FEA and Motor Control criteria, can serve as a framework for developing adaptive apparel that meets the specific needs of individuals with Down Syndrome.
