Abstract
*** Shoreline change is influenced by both natural processes and human activities. This study analyze shoreline changes in Indramayu Regency in 2004, 2014, and 2025 using the Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS). Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 imagery were processed in Google Earth Engine (GEE), while shoreline extraction was performed using the Modified Normalized Difference Water Index (MNDWI) and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The extracted shorelines were analyzed using the Net Shoreline Movement (NSM), Linear Regression Rate (LRR), and End Point Rate (EPR) parameters. The shoreline length was recorded at 157.3 km in 2004, decreased to 147.9 km in 2014, and slightly increased to 148.4 km in 2025. Of the 11 coastal districts, six experienced erosion, three remained relatively stable, and two experienced accretion during the 2004–2025 period. Karangampel District recorded the highest average erosion (−216.38 m, with a rate of −10.26 m/year), while Indramayu District showed the highest average accretion (99.54 m, with a rate of 4.67 m/year). The Cimanuk Estuary exhibited the most extreme accretion, with an average rate of 22.68 m/year. Spatial analysis indicated that this extreme accretion coincided with the lowest wave and current energy during the East Monsoon. These conditions promoted the deposition of river-borne sediments at the estuary mouth, resulting in channel shoaling that obstructed navigation and disrupted the movement of fishing vessels. Shoreline changes in Indramayu Regency are driven by the interaction between low marine energy and anthropogenic activities in the coastal zone. Coastal management should therefore prioritize estuary channel normalization, sustainable control of aquaculture land use, and integrated mangrove rehabilitation involving government agencies, local communities, and the private sector.
