Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui apakah terdapat pengaruh dari emotion regulation dan social comparison terhadap kecenderungan sadfishing pada dewasa awal. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kuantitatif dengan teknik pengambilan sampel menggunakan convenience sampling. Partisipan pada penelitian ini berjumlah 276 responden berusia 18-40 tahun yang berdomisili di Indonesia yang aktif menggunakan media sosial. Alat ukur yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-Short Form (ERQ-S), Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM), dan Social Media Sadfishing Questionnaire (SMSQ). Hasil analisis regresi berganda menunjukkan bahwa emotion regulation, melalui dimensi cognitive reappraisal dan dimensi expressive suppression, serta social comparison secara simultan berpengaruh signifikan terhadap sadfishing (F = 29,655 p < 0,05), dengan koefisien korelasi berganda (R) sebesar 0,496 dan koefisien determinasi (Adjusted R²) sebesar 0,238, yang menunjukkan bahwa ketiga variabel independen mampu menjelaskan 23,8% variasi sadfishing. Secara parsial, emotion regulation dimensi cognitive reappraisal berpengaruh negatif terhadap kecenderungan sadfishing pada dewasa awal sedangkan expressive suppression tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap kecenderungan sadfishing pada dewasa awal, dan social comparison berpengaruh positif terhadap kecenderungan sadfishing pada dewasa awal. ***** This study aims to examine whether emotion regulation and social comparison influence the tendency toward sadfishing in early adulthood. The research employed a quantitative approach using a convenience sampling technique. The participants consisted of 276 respondents aged 18–40 years, residing in Indonesia, and actively using social media. The instruments used in this study were the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire-Short Form (ERQ-S), the Iowa-Netherlands Comparison Orientation Measure (INCOM), and the Social Media Sadfishing Questionnaire (SMSQ). The results of the multiple regression analysis indicated that emotion regulation, through the cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression dimensions, as well as social comparison, simultaneously had a significant effect on sadfishing (F = 29.655, p < .05), with a multiple correlation coefficient (R) of 0.496 and an adjusted coefficient of determination (Adjusted R²) of 0.238. These findings indicate that the three independent variables collectively explained 23.8% of the variance in sadfishing. Partially, the cognitive reappraisal dimension of emotion regulation has a negative effect on sadfishing tendencies among early adulthood, whereas expressive suppression does not have a significant effect on sadfishing tendencies among early adulthood. In contrast, social comparison has a positive effect on sadfishing tendencies among early adulthood.
