Abstract
EZALICHA FATYA JASMINE. Peningkatan rapat arus hingga 0,040 mA/mm² menghasilkan ukuran kristalit Ni terkecil, sedangkan peningkatan rapat arus hingga 0,056 mA/mm² menyebabkan distribusi morfologi lapisan menjadi kurang homogen dan diikuti penurunan nilai kekerasan Vickers. ***** EZALICHA FATYA JASMINE. The Effect of Pulse Current Density on the Structure and Mechanical Properties of Ni/Si₃N₄ Composite Coatings on High Speed Steel by Ultrasonic-Assisted Electrodeposition. Undergraduate Thesis, Physics Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, July 2026. Under the supervision of ESMAR BUDI and SITI JULIA. This study aims to analyze the effect of pulse current density on the characteristics of Ni/Si₃N₄ composite coatings deposited on High-Speed Steel (HSS) substrates using the Ultrasonic-Assisted Pulse Electrodeposition (UAED) method. The pulse current densities employed were 0.024, 0.040, and 0.056 mA/mm². The composite coatings were characterized using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy–Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM–EDS), and Vickers hardness testing to evaluate the influence of pulse current density on the crystal structure, surface morphology, elemental composition, and mechanical properties of the coatings. The results showed that all composite coatings consisted of β-Si₃N₄, Ni, and CrFe phases without the formation of any new crystalline phases. Although variations in pulse current density did not alter the crystalline phases, they affected the crystallite size of the Ni and β-Si₃N₄ phases, internal stress, surface morphology, elemental distribution, and Vickers hardness. Increasing the pulse current density to 0.040 mA/mm² produced the smallest Ni crystallite size, whereas increasing it to 0.056 mA/mm² resulted in a less homogeneous morphological distribution accompanied by a decrease in Vickers hardness. The optimum deposition condition was obtained at a pulse current density of 0.024 mA/mm², producing the most homogeneous coating with the highest Vickers hardness of 859.63 HV (8.43 GPa). Keywords: Ni/Si₃N₄ composite; electrodeposition; pulse current; ultrasonic; microstructure; Vickers hardness.
