Abstract
***** This study aimed to examine the effect of self-compassion on perceived stress among final-year undergraduate students writing their theses. A quantitative approach was employed using questionnaire-based data collection and hypothesis testing through simple linear regression analysis. The instruments used in this study were the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) to measure self-compassion and the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) to assess perceived stress. The participants consisted of 276 active final-year undergraduate students (eighth semester) from universities in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) who were writing their theses and had not yet undergone their thesis defense. The result revealed that self-compassion had a significant negative effect on perceived stress among final-year undergraduate students writing their theses. Higher self-compassion was associated with lower levels of perceived stress. Furthermore, self-compassion accounted for 29,5% of the variance in perceived stress, while the remaining 70,5% was explained by factors not examined in this study.
