Abstract
Kata Kunci: trait mindfulness, strategi regulasi emosi, cognitive reappraisal, expressive suppression, emerging adulthood, yoga *** The rising prevalence of mental health problems among emerging adults (18–29 years) highlights the need for adaptive emotion regulation, which may be cultivated through yoga believed to strengthen trait mindfulness. This study examined the effect of trait mindfulness on emotion regulation strategies (cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression) among emerging adults practicing yoga. Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, 174 participants (aged 18–29, practicing yoga regularly for ≥3 months) were recruited via purposive sampling Trait mindfulness was measured using the 10-item Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire (FFMQ) adapted by Fourianalistyawati et al. (2024), while emotion regulation strategies were measured using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) adapted by Radde et al. (2021), and analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that trait mindfulness had a significant positive effect on cognitive reappraisal, contributing 8%, and a significant negative effect on expressive suppression, contributing 4.4%. Higher trait mindfulness predicted greater use of adaptive strategies and lower use of maladaptive ones, confirming trait mindfulness role as a psychological resource for emotion regulation.
