Abstract

Kata kunci: illiotibial syndrome, PNF, injury massage, pelari ***** This study aims to compare the effectiveness of PNF and Injury Massage on reducing the degree of pain of illiotibial band syndrome (ITBS) in runners. This study used a true experiment method (pure) with a two-group sample design using a pre- and Posttest two-group design, with 12 runners randomly divided into the PNF group and the Injury Massage group. The degree of pain was measured using a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) in the pre-test and post-test phases. The data obtained were analyzed using a normality test, a homogeneity test, a paired sample t-test, and an independent sample t-test. The results of the PNF group that received PNF treatment showed that the two-lateral p value (p-value) obtained was 0.001, indicating the effectiveness of PNF on reducing the degree of pain of ITBS. Meanwhile, in the Injury Massage group that received Injury Massage treatment, the two-lateral p value (p-value) obtained was 0.001, indicating the results of the study that Injury Massage was effective in reducing the degree of pain of ITBS. An independent sample t-test showed a significant difference between the PNF and Injury Massage groups, with a significance value (2-sided p) of 0.004 and an absolute effect size of 2.192. This confirms that the mean difference between the two groups is not only statistically significant but also has a significant difference in effectiveness. The percentage difference in effectiveness between the two groups indicates that in reducing pain levels in runners with ITBS injuries, Injury Massage treatment was 78% more effective than PNF. Keywords: illiotibial syndrome, PNF, injury massage, runners
