Abstract
***** Creative thinking is a core competency in twenty-first-century learning, yet Indonesian students' performance remains weak, largely due to teacher-centered biology instruction rarely linked to real environmental issues. This study examined the effect of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model combined with the Science, Environment, Technology, and Society (SETS) approach on the creative thinking ability of tenth-grade students on environmental change, assessed across four dimensions: fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. The study was conducted at SMA Negeri 51 Jakarta using a quasi-experimental posttest-only control group design. Through multistage random sampling, the experimental group was taught using PBL-SETS and the control group using Discovery Learning-Deep Learning. Creative thinking was measured using a validated, reliable essay test. The independent sample t-test showed a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05) with a large effect size (Cohen's d = 2.04). These findings confirm that the PBL model with the SETS approach effectively enhances students' creative thinking in addressing contextual problems, in line with the Phase E Learning Outcomes of the Merdeka Curriculum, and may serve as an innovative alternative for biology instruction
