Abstract
**** Stimming behavior in the form of hand flapping in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can interfere with concentration and the learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of a stress ball on reducing hand flapping behavior in children with ASD. This study used a quantitative approach with a Single Subject Research (SSR) method and an A-B-A' design. The study subject was a 15-year-old male student diagnosed with moderate ASD at the LMC Autism Center. Data were collected through direct observation using the event recording technique. The intervention involved the use of a stress ball combined with the Differential Reinforcement of Alternative Behavior (DRA) technique. Data analysis was conducted visually within and across conditions based on directional trends, stability, changes in level, and percentage of overlap. The results showed a decrease in behavior frequency during the intervention phase compared to the baseline phase, as well as a tendency for behavior to remain lower during the second baseline phase. These findings indicate that the use of a stress ball is effective in reducing the frequency of hand flapping in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Therefore, a stress ball can be used as a practical alternative intervention to support children’s focus and readiness to learn.
