Abstract
***** Waste treatment using an incinerator can reduce waste volume; however, the combustion process still produces flue gas emissions that require control. This study aimed to identify carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) levels in the flue gas of a multistage-filter incinerator and compare them with the emission standards stipulated in the Indonesian Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 70 of 2016. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method with a comparative approach. The incinerator was equipped with zeolite and activated-carbon filter media and operated using visually dry, non-hazardous household waste. CO, NOx, and O₂ levels were measured using a gas analyzer at six observation points within a single operational cycle. The data were converted into mg/Nm³ and corrected to a reference oxygen concentration of 11%. The results showed that CO levels ranged from 250 to 640 ppm, while NOx levels ranged from 130 to 190 ppm. After conversion and oxygen correction, the average CO and NOx concentrations were 621.53 mg/Nm³ and 412.40 mg/Nm³, respectively. Although the average values were below the applicable emission limits, three CO observation points and two NOx observation points exceeded the limits. These findings indicate that emission conformity was not consistent throughout the testing process.****)
