Abstract
The 21st-century education demands mastery of essential skills, particularly collaboration, a main component in the Independent Curriculum. However, students' collaboration skills in biology learning remain relatively low due to the high dominance of teacher-centered teaching methods. Classroom group work is often characterized by the pseudo-collaboration phenomenon, where interactions are dominated by high-ability students (single fighters) while others remain passive (free riders). This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing the Predict, Discuss, Explain, Observe, Discuss, Explain (PDEODE) learning model on 11th-grade students' collaboration skills regarding the respiratory system at SMA Negeri 12 Jakarta. A quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a posttest-only control group design was applied. Class selection used purposive and cluster random sampling techniques, followed by simple random sampling to determine a final sample of 68 respondents. Data collection was carried out using observation sheets and self-assessment questionnaires, which were then processed into a composite score. Empirical data analysis using the Independent Sample t-Test showed a significance value of 0.000 (less than 0.05). The average score of collaboration skills in the experimental class (81.49) was superior compared to the control class using the STAD model (70.91). Additionally, the distribution of active participation in the experimental class was much more even. In conclusion, there is a positive and significant influence from implementing the PDEODE learning model on students' collaboration skills. The PDEODE syntax is proven effective in facilitating social interaction, minimizing student passivity, and thoroughly fostering shared responsibility in learning.
