Abstract

**** Commercial facial cleansing soaps generally use synthetic surfactants such as SLS, which have the potential to irritate the skin and damage the skin barrier when used in excessive concentrations and over prolonged periods. This study aims to produce a solid facial soap formulation based on lerak fruit extract (Sapindus rarak DC.) and aloe vera extract (Aloe vera L.) with the best quality, as well as to analyze its quality characteristics based on SNI 3532:2021. The research employed a quantitative descriptive laboratory experimental method with three formulations, namely F0 (control without extract), F1 (5% lerak extract and 8% aloe vera extract), and F2 (10% lerak extract and 8% aloe vera extract), prepared using the cold process method. The tested parameters included pH, foam stability, organoleptic properties, moisture, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The results showed that all three formulas met the pH and foam stability requirements of SNI 3532:2021. F1 obtained the highest organoleptic score (4.42), the pH most suitable for facial skin standards (9.36), the highest foam stability (75.00%), and the highest increase in skin moisture (30.69%), while F2 excelled in antibacterial activity with a strong inhibition zone category (11.43 mm). The inhibition zone diameter increased with the increasing concentration of lerak extract, shifting from the moderate category (F0 and F1) to the strong category (F2). Overall, F1 can be considered the formulation with the best quality, as it excelled in four out of five test parameters. The addition of lerak fruit extract and aloe vera extract was proven to improve the physical and functional quality of solid facial soap compared to the control formula, indicating its potential to be developed as a natural active ingredient in facial soap preparations.
