Abstract
Peningkatan volume sampah rumah tangga mendorong penggunaan incinerator sebagai alternatif pengolahan sampah, namun proses pembakarannya menghasilkan emisi gas buang yang berpotensi mencemari lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan merancang cerobong gas buang multistage filter menggunakan media zeolit dan karbon aktif serta menganalisis pengaruh variasi ukuran media filter terhadap karakteristik aliran gas buang pada incinerator. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan rekayasa melalui perancangan menggunakan SolidWorks, simulasi Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) dengan SolidWorks Flow Simulation, serta analisis distribusi kecepatan, distribusi tekanan, dan pressure drop. Variasi media filter yang dianalisis terdiri atas ukuran 3 mm, 7 mm, 11 mm, dan kondisi tanpa filter. Hasil simulasi menunjukkan bahwa seluruh variasi filter memengaruhi karakteristik aliran gas. Variasi 7 mm memberikan performa terbaik dengan average velocity pada cerobong atas sebesar 1,0146 m/s, cerobong kiri 0,8365 m/s, cerobong kanan 1,0277 m/s, serta menghasilkan pressure drop sebesar 151,68 Pa. Nilai tersebut menunjukkan keseimbangan antara hambatan aliran dan kontinuitas aliran sehingga meningkatkan waktu kontak gas dengan media adsorben tanpa menyebabkan kehilangan tekanan yang berlebihan. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, rancangan cerobong gas buang multistage filter menggunakan media zeolit dan karbon aktif berukuran 7 mm direkomendasikan sebagai konfigurasi terbaik untuk mendukung pengendalian emisi pada incinerator. ***** The increasing volume of household waste has encouraged the use of incinerators as an alternative waste management technology. However, the combustion process produces exhaust gas emissions that may contribute to environmental pollution. This study aimed to design a multi-stage filter exhaust chimney using zeolite and activated carbon as filtration media and to analyze the effect of filter media size on the exhaust gas flow characteristics of an incinerator. The research employed an engineering design approach involving modeling using SolidWorks, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation with SolidWorks Flow Simulation, and analyses of velocity distribution, pressure distribution, and pressure drop. Four filter configurations were evaluated, consisting of 3 mm, 7 mm, 11 mm, and a configuration without a filter. The simulation results showed that all filter configurations influenced the exhaust gas flow characteristics compared with the unfiltered condition. The 7 mm filter configuration demonstrated the best overall performance, with average velocities of 1.0146 m/s at the top chimney, 0.8365 m/s at the left chimney, and 1.0277 m/s at the right chimney, as well as a pressure drop of 151.68 Pa. These results indicate an optimal balance between flow resistance and flow continuity, allowing longer contact time between the exhaust gas and the adsorbent media without causing excessive pressure loss. Therefore, the proposed 7 mm zeolite and activated carbon multi-stage filter exhaust chimney is recommended as the optimum configuration for supporting emission control in community-scale incinerators.
