Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh strategi Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) terhadap pemahaman konseptual siswa pada materi hukum dasar kimia. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi experimental melalui desain pretest-posttest nonequivalent group. Sampel penelitian terdiri dari dua kelas, yaitu kelas X di salah satu SMA Negeri yang berlokasi di Jakarta Timur tahun ajaran 2025/2026. Sampel ini dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling, diperoleh 36 siswa kelas treatment dengan perlakuan strategi predict-observe-explain (POE) dan 36 siswa kelas kontrol dengan perlakuan model direct instruction. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa 15 butir soal pilihan ganda berbentuk two tier yang telah memenuhi kriteria validitas, reliabilitas, tingkat kesukaran, dan daya beda. Data penelitian yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif dan statistik inferensial non-parametrik yaitu uji mann-whitney u. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan rata-rata nilai posttest antara siswa kelas treatment dan siswa kelas kontrol. Strategi POE mampu memfasilitasi siswa dalam proses meningkatkan pemahaman konseptual siswa melalui kegiatan memprediksi, mengamati, serta menjelaskan, sehingga siswa menjadi lebih aktif selama proses pembelajaran berlangsung. Dengan demikian, strategi Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) memiliki perngaruh terhadap pemahaman konseptual siswa pada materi hukum dasar kimia. Kata kunci: Predict-Observe-Explain (POE), pemahaman konseptual, hukum dasar kimia, pembelajaran kimia, two-tier test. **** This study aims to determine the effect of the Predict-Observe-Explain (POE) strategy on students’ conceptual understanding of basic laws of chemistry. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design involving unequal groups. The research sample consisted of two classes, namely 10th-grade classes at a public high school located in East Jakarta during the 2025–2026 school year. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 36 students in the experimental class who received the predict-observe-explain (POE) strategy treatment and 36 students in the control class who received the direct instruction model treatment. The instrument used consisted of 15 two-tier multiple choice items that met the criteria for validity, reliability, difficulty level, dan discriminative power. The research data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and non-parametric inferential statistics, spesifically the mann-whitney u test. The results showed a difference in the mean posttest scores between students in the experimental class and those in the control class. The POE strategy helps students improve their conceptual understanding through predicting, observing, and explaining, thereby making them more active during the learning process. Thus, the predict-observeexplain (POE) strategy has a positive effect on students’ conceptual understanding of the basic law of chemistry.
