Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mensintesis dan mengkarakterisasi membran keramik komposit berbasis arang batok kelapa, lempung, dan zeolit sebagai media filtrasi untuk menurunkan tingkat kekeruhan air Kali Irigasi Cakung, Jakarta Timur. Membran dibuat menggunakan metode pressing dengan komposisi bahan yang sama dan variasi suhu sintering 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, dan 1000°C. Karakterisasi membran dilakukan melalui pengujian susut pemanasan, densitas, porositas, kekuatan tekan, serta analisis morfologi dan komposisi unsur menggunakan Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Kinerja membran dievaluasi melalui pengujian filtrasi air berdasarkan parameter tingkat kekeruhan dan efisiensi filtrasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan suhu sintering memengaruhi karakteristik fisik dan kinerja filtrasi membran. Membran yang disinter pada suhu lebih tinggi memiliki densitas dan kekuatan mekanik yang lebih baik akibat proses pemadatan struktur, namun menunjukkan kecenderungan penurunan porositas. Analisis SEM menunjukkan terbentuknya struktur pori yang relatif merata, sedangkan hasil EDS mengidentifikasi unsur utama penyusun membran berupa karbon (C), oksigen (O), silikon (Si), aluminium (Al), dan unsur mineral lainnya yang berasal dari lempung dan zeolit. Pengujian filtrasi menunjukkan bahwa membran mampu menurunkan tingkat kekeruhan air Kali Irigasi Cakung secara signifikan. Membran dengan suhu sintering optimum menghasilkan keseimbangan antara porositas, kekuatan mekanik, dan efisiensi filtrasi yang baik.***** This study aims to synthesize and characterize ceramic composite membranes based on coconut shell charcoal, clay, and zeolite as filtration media for reducing the turbidity level of water from the Cakung Irrigation Canal, East Jakarta. The membranes were fabricated using the pressing method with identical material compositions and sintering temperature variations of 700°C, 800°C, 900°C, and 1000°C. Membrane characterization was conducted through shrinkage, density, porosity, compressive strength, and morphological and elemental analyses using Scanning Electron Microscopy-Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS). Membrane performance was evaluated through water filtration tests based on turbidity reduction and filtration efficiency parameters. The results showed that increasing the sintering temperature significantly affected the physical characteristics and filtration performance of the membranes. Membranes sintered at higher temperatures exhibited better density and mechanical strength due to structural densification, although their porosity tended to decrease. SEM analysis revealed relatively uniform pore structures, while EDS analysis identified the main constituent elements of the membranes, including carbon (C), oxygen (O), silicon (Si), aluminum (Al), and other mineral elements originating from clay and zeolite. Filtration tests demonstrated that the membranes were capable of significantly reducing the turbidity of water from the Cakung Irrigation Canal. The membrane with the optimum sintering temperature provided the best balance between porosity, mechanical strength, and filtration efficiency.
