Abstract

Kebijakan keamanan diterapkan melalui Extended Access Control List (ACL). This condition results in network performance degradation under high load, where direct testing using iPerf3 on the actual SMKN 6 Jakarta network demonstrated packet loss reaching 45% and jitter of 19,968 ms when 5 clients were simultaneously active. Furthermore, the absence of traffic separation poses security risks in the form of potential unauthorized access between user groups. This study aims to design and simulate the application of VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network) as a network segmentation solution at SMKN 6 Jakarta using the NDLC (Network Development Life Cycle) method, and to test inter-VLAN connectivity, ACL policies, and delay and packet loss parameters based on ICMP ping extended measurements. The NDLC method was applied through six stages: Analysis, Design, Simulation Prototype, Implementation, Monitoring, and Management. Network simulation was conducted using GNS3 with a Cisco C3725 router configured as a Router-on-a-Stick using Cisco IOS command-line interface (CLI). It is important to note that all CLI configurations in this study are specifically designed for Cisco IOS-based routers and may not be directly compatible with devices from other manufacturers. The network was divided into five VLANs based on user groups: VLAN 10 (Students), VLAN 20 (Teachers), VLAN 30 (Guests), VLAN 40 (Laboratory), and VLAN 50 (Administration/Server). Security policies were enforced through Extended Access Control Lists (ACL). Based on GNS3 simulation results, the VLAN design successfully segmented the network into five segments, activated inter-VLAN routing, and enforced ACL policies according to the test scenarios. ICMP ping extended measurements showed 0% packet loss and an average delay of 15–40 ms in the VLAN scenario, which falls within the "Good" category according to TIPHON standards. All ACL policies functioned as designed with a 100% success rate, evidenced by "Communication administratively prohibited" responses in every tested blocking scenario. However, throughput and jitter parameters in the VLAN scenario could not be concluded due to the limitation of VPCS in GNS3, which does not support iPerf3 as a measurement tool. Therefore, this design serves as a viable initial blueprint and requires validation through physical implementation or simulation using nodes that support iPerf3.
