Abstract

Penelitian ini menganalisis peran lirik lagu dalam film animasi musikal Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004). Fokus utamanya adalah bagaimana lirik lagu membangun narasi dan mendukung tema utama film, yakni kebebasan, identitas, dan cinta. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori skema aktan dan struktur naratif Greimas dan Todorov untuk menganalisis fungsi naratif, serta konsep kesatuan tematik dari Culler untuk menganalisis tema. Teori sinematografi dari Boggs dan Petrie juga digunakan untuk menganalisis unsur visual yang mendukung makna lagu. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan data berupa lirik dari tujuh lagu dalam film serta adegan-adegan dalam film yang ditampilkan bersama lirik lagu. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu berfungsi sebagai alat dalam membangun narasi dengan memperkenalkan para tokoh dan hubungan di antara mereka, mengembangkan konflik dan ketegangan, mempersiapkan peristiwa-peristiwa penting, serta mengakhiri cerita. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan bahwa lirik-lirik tersebut berkontribusi pada pengembangan tema-tema utama film, khususnya kebebasan, identitas, dan cinta, melalui konsep dan kontras yang berulang. Selain itu, sinematografi memperkuat makna yang diungkapkan dalam lirik dengan menonjolkan tingkah laku, emosi, reaksi, dan imajinasi para tokoh. Oleh karena itu, lirik lagu bukan hanya berfungsi sebagai pengiring, tetapi juga bagian penting dari proses bercerita.*****This research analyzes the role of song lyrics in the animated musical film Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper (2004), focusing on how the lyrics build the narrative and support the main themes of the film, such as freedom, identity, and love. This research uses the actantial model and narrative structure by Greimas and Todorov to analyze narrative functions, and Culler’s concept of thematic unity to analyze themes. Cinematography theory by Boggs and Petrie is also used to analyze visual elements that support the meaning of the songs. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the data consist of the lyrics of seven songs, along with the scenes in which the song lyrics appear in the film. The findings show that the song lyrics function as tools that build narrative by introducing the characters and their relationships, develop the central conflict and tension, prepare important events, and resolve the story. The findings also reveal that the songs contribute to the development of the film's main themes, especially freedom, identity, and love, through repeated ideas and contrasts. In addition, the cinematography reinforces the meanings expressed in the lyrics by emphasizing the characters' actions, emotions, reactions, and imaginations. Therefore, the song lyrics are not only accompaniment but also essential parts of the storytelling process.
