Abstract

***** This undergraduate thesis analyses how TikTok clips from Dracula: A Love Tale (2025) represent obsessive attachment as something romantic. It aims to examine how visual, audio, and textual elements reconstruct the meaning of the original film scenes, as well as how TikTok’s algorithm contributes to the romanticisation and normalization of these representations. The analysis employs Kress and van Leeuwen’s (2006) Multimodal Discourse Analysis (MDA), supported by Baudrillard’s (1994) concept of simulacra and Foucault’s (1978) theory of discursive normalization. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretative approach. The findings show that the use of close-ups, slow motion, romantic music, and text overlays frames obsessive relationships as an ideal form of love. Repeated circulation through TikTok’s algorithm and users’ comments further reinforces the normalization of this behaviour.
