Abstract
***** This study aims to examine the effect of psychological capital (PsyCap) on work stress among Generation Z gig workers amid the uncertainty challenges of the gig economy system. Using a quantitative approach with a survey design, the sample consisted of 250 gig worker respondents aged 18–29 years selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were the Positive Psychological Capital (23 items) and the adapted General Work Stress Scale (GWSS) (9 items). Simple linear regression analysis revealed a significant negative effect of PsyCap on work stress (F = 147.933; p < 0.001) with the regression equation Y = 54.185 - 0.489X, and a contribution of 37.4% (R² = 0.374). These findings confirm that PsyCap serves as a protective psychological resource in reducing work stress. Therefore, it is recommended that digital platforms/companies develop PsyCap intervention programs, and that the government strengthen social protection and algorithm transparency for gig workers.
