Abstract

***** This study aims to empirically examine the effect of leverage, financial distress, and firm size on the issuance of going concern opinions. Secondary data were obtained from the financial statements of consumer cyclicals companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2022–2024, with a total observation of 254 selected through purposive sampling. Logistic regression analysis was employed with the assistance of Excel and SPSS version 26. The findings reveal that financial distress, measured using the Altman Z-Score bankruptcy prediction model, has a positive and significant effect on the issuance of going concern opinions. Companies lacking sufficient cash flow to meet short-term obligations, facing operational difficulties, experiencing capital deficiency, and incurring consecutive losses raise substantial doubt about business continuity, leading auditors to issue going concern opinions. Conversely, leverage and firm size show no significant effect on going concern opinions. Neither the debt level, measured by the Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), nor company size, measured by the natural logarithm of total assets, appears to be a primary consideration for auditors when determining going concern opinions
