Abstract

Keterampilan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa pada materi luas permukaan balok masih tergolong rendah. Siswa mengalami kesulitan memahami soal cerita, menentukan strategi penyelesaian, serta menghubungkan situasi kontekstual dengan konsep luas permukaan balok. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan merumuskan Teori Instruksional Lokal (TIL) berbasis Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) pada pembelajaran luas permukaan balok untuk melatih keterampilan pemecahan masalah matematis siswa kelas VIII. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan design research yang terdiri atas tiga tahap, yaitu preliminary design, teaching experiment, dan retrospective analysis. Perumusan TIL dilakukan melalui penyusunan Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT), implementasi pembelajaran, serta analisis retrospektif untuk merevisi lintasan belajar berdasarkan respons belajar siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa aktivitas pembelajaran berbasis RME membantu siswa membangun pemahaman konsep luas permukaan balok secara bertahap sehingga mampu melatih keterampilan pemecahan masalah matematis. Berdasarkan proses tersebut, penelitian ini berhasil merumuskan Teori Instruksional Lokal berbasis Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) yang dapat digunakan sebagai acuan dalam pembelajaran luas permukaan balok. Kata Kunci: Design Research, Teori Instruksional Lokal, Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT), Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), Keterampilan Pemecahan Masalah Matematis. **** Students' mathematical problem-solving skills on the topic of the surface area of cuboids remain relatively low. Students experience difficulties in understanding word problems, determining appropriate solution strategies, and relating contextual situations to the concept of the surface area of cuboids. Therefore, this study aimed to formulate a Local Instructional Theory (LIT) based on Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) for teaching the surface area of cuboids to foster eighth-grade students' mathematical problem-solving skills. This study employed a design research approach consisting of three phases: preliminary design, teaching experiment, and retrospective analysis. The LIT was formulated through the development of a Hypothetical Learning Trajectory (HLT), classroom implementation, and retrospective analysis to revise the learning trajectory based on students' learning responses. The findings indicate that the RME-based learning activities helped students progressively develop their understanding of the surface area of cuboids while fostering their mathematical problem-solving skills. Based on this iterative process, the study successfully formulated a Local Instructional Theory based on Realistic Mathematics Education that can serve as a reference forteaching the surface area of cuboids.
