Abstract
Kata Kunci: Analisis Kesalahan Fonologi, BIPA 1, Keterampilan Berbicara, The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS). ***** This study aims to describe the forms of phonological errors in the speaking skills of BIPA 1 learners participating in The Indonesian AID Scholarship (TIAS) Program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta, originating from Tanzania and Laos. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were phonetically transcribed and analyzed using Tarigan’s error analysis framework, and subsequently classified based on the forms of phonological errors according to Chaer’s theory of phonological sound changes. The results indicate that phonological errors occurred in the forms of assimilation, neutralization, syncope, apocope, paragoge, epenthesis, and phoneme change. The most dominant phonological errors were phoneme changes, accounting for 29 cases (e.g., the change of the trill consonant /r/ to /l/ and the vowel /ə/ to /ɛ/), followed by apocope, with 18 cases (e.g., the deletion of the glottal consonant /h/ at the end of a word), and syncope, with 12 cases (e.g., the deletion of the vowel /a/ in the middle of a word). Based on the collected data, no instances of sound insertion at the beginning of words (prothesis) were found. These findings highlight the need for differentiated BIPA instructional strategies through minimal-pair exercises and reinforcement of coda production to address the articulatory difficulties experienced by learners from Tanzania (East Africa) and Laos (Southeast Asia).
