Abstract
***** This study was motivated by the low writing skills of third-grade elementary school students, particularly in organizing sentences coherently and meaningfully. Writing instruction was still predominantly based on textbooks, which provided limited support for students in developing ideas and constructing sentences appropriately. The needs analysis indicated a percentage of 80.64% on indicators related to students’ difficulties in understanding and constructing sentences. This condition indicates difficulties in writing instruction that require an appropriate solution through the use of instructional media. This study aimed to develop Augmented Reality (AR)-based flashcard media integrated with a communicative approach and to determine its feasibility for teaching writing skills to third-grade elementary school students. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of the Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation stages. The research subjects included a third-grade teacher, third-grade students of SDN Kebon Manggis 01, and validators comprising a material expert, a media expert, and a language expert. The needs analysis was conducted through teacher interviews, student interviews, and student questionnaires. Data were collected using expert validation sheets and user response questionnaires, while the data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative techniques with percentage calculations. The validation results showed feasibility scores of 91.07% from the material expert, 94.64% from the media expert, and 90.00% from the language expert, with an overall average of 91.90%, which was categorized as highly feasible. The user evaluation results obtained scores of 95.83% in the one-to-one evaluation, 97.91% in the small-group evaluation, and 99.55% in the field-test evaluation, with an overall average of 97.76%, which was also categorized as highly feasible. Based on these findings, the Augmented Reality-based flashcard media integrated with the communicative approach was considered highly feasible for use as instructional media to support the writing skills of third-grade elementary school students.
