Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan persamaan dan perbedaan tokoh serta penokohan dalam dongeng Rapunzel karya Brüder Grimm dan Rapunzel: Neu Verföhnt karya Walt Disney. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode studi kasus dan teknik analisis komparatif. Data penelitian berupa kalimat, dialog, dan paragraf yang mengandung unsur tokoh dan penokohan dalam kedua dongeng. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui teknik baca dan catat, sedangkan teknik analisis data menggunakan teori Charakter und Charakterisierung oleh Marquaß dan teori sastra bandingan oleh Endaswara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat persamaan dan perbedaan yang signifikan dalam penggambaran tokoh dan penokohan pada kedua dongeng. Persamaan terlihat pada fungsi tokoh-tokoh utama, seperti Rapunzel dan Mutter Gothel, yang sama-sama berperan sebagai pusat konflik cerita. Perbedaan paling menonjol tampak pada konstruksi karakter tokoh, khususnya pada tokoh Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, dan Mutter Gothel. Tokoh Rapunzel dalam versi Walt Disney digambarkan lebih mandiri, aktif, dan berani, sedangkan Rapunzel dalam dongeng karya Brüder Grimm cenderung pasif. Tokoh Flynn Rider sebagai adaptasi dari der Königssohn ditampilkan sebagai tokoh yang dinamis dan kompleks, sementara der Königssohn dalam versi Grimm bersifat statis dan tipikal. Mutter Gothel dalam versi Disney digambarkan sebagai tokoh antagonis yang manipulatif secara psikologis, berbeda dengan Mutter Gothel versi Grimm yang digambarkan secara sederhana sebagai penyihir antagonis klasik. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa persamaan dan perbedaan penokohan tersebut ditunjukkan adanya pengaruh latar sosial, budaya, dan perkembangan zaman terhadap proses adaptasi dongeng. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Rapunzel: Neu Verföhnt karya Walt Disney tidak hanya merupakan adaptasi dari dongeng Rapunzel, tetapi juga merupakan reinterpretasi tokoh dan penokohan yang disesuaikan dengan nilai-nilai masyarakat modern. Kata Kunci: sastra bandingan, tokoh dan penokohan, Rapunzel, Brüder Grimm, Walt Disney. ***** This study aims to describe the similarities and differences in the characters and characterization in the fairy tale Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm and Rapunzel: Neu Verföhnt by Walt Disney. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study method and a comparative analysis technique. The research data consist of sentences, dialogues, and paragraphs containing elements of characterization and character portrayal in both fairy tales. The data were collected using the reading and note-taking technique, while the data were analyzed based on Marquaß’s theory of Charakter und Charakterisierung and Endaswara’s theory of comparative literature. The results of the study reveal significant similarities and differences in the portrayal and characterization of the characters in both fairy tales. Similarities can be ob-served in the roles of the main characters, particularly Rapunzel and Mother Gothel, who both serve as central figures in the development of the conflict. The most prominent differences are found in the construction of the characters, particularly Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, and Mother Gothel. In Walt Disney’s version, Rapunzel is portrayed as more independent, active, and courageous, whereas Rapunzel in the Brothers Grimm’s fairy tale tends to be more passive. Flynn Rider, as an adaptation of der Königssohn (the prince), is presented as a dynamic and complex character, while der Königssohn in the Grimm version is portrayed as a static and convention-al character. Mother Gothel in the Disney version is depicted as an antagonist who manipulates Rapunzel psychologically, in contrast to the Mother Gothel in the Grimm version, who is portrayed more simply as a conventional evil sorceress. The findings indicate that the similarities and differences in characterization are in-fluenced by social and cultural contexts as well as changes in societal values over time. Therefore, Rapunzel: Neu Verföhnt by Walt Disney is not merely an adapta-tion of the fairy tale Rapunzel, but also a reinterpretation of its characters and char-acterization that reflects the values and perspectives of modern society.
