Abstract

Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis strategi kesantunan bahasa serta mendeskripsikan penggunaannya dalam tuturan pada film “Le Silence de la Mer (2004)”. Penelitian ini merujuk kepada teori Brown & Levinson (1987) yang mengklasifikasikan strategi kesantunan ke dalam 4 jenis, yaitu tidak tercatat (off-record), tercatat (bald-on-record), kesantunan positif (positive politeness), dan kesantunan negatif (negative politeness). Penelitian ini mengangkat fokus analisis berupa pembahasan 11 sub-strategi kesantunan dari keseluruhan empat strategi kesantunan di atas. Sub-strategi tersebut di antaranya adalah give hints, metaphors, rhetorical questions, non-minimization, FTA-oriented, be conventionally indirect, be pessimistic, apologize, notice interests, avoid disagreements, dan presuppose common ground. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis isi. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik dokumentasi, yaitu dengan mengidentifikasi dan mengkategorikan tuturan yang menggunakan strategi kesantunan bahasa. Sumber data primer dalam penelitian ini adalah film “Le Silence de la Mer (2004)” yang didukung oleh sumber data sekunder berupa buku teori dan artikel ilmiah relevan. Teknik analisis data mengacu kepada teori Miles & Huberman yang terbagi ke dalam tiga tahap, yaitu: reduksi data, penyajian data dalam tabel bantu analisis, dan penarikan kesimpulan berdasarkan interpretasi data yang telah diklasifikasikan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis, terdapat 30 data temuan yang terdiri dari 8 tuturan dengan strategi kesantunan positif (positive politeness), tidak tercatat (off-record), dan kesantunan negatif (negative politeness) serta 6 tuturan dalam strategi kesantunan tercatat (bald-on-record). Interpretasi hasil menunjukkan bahwa strategi kesantunan positif, tidak tercatat, dan strategi kesantunan negatif memiliki frekuensi data temuan yang sama, yaitu sebanyak 8 tuturan. Keempat strategi kesantunan Brown & Levinson (1987) memiliki satu tujuan yang sama, yaitu untuk meredam daya ancam tuturan. Dengan demikian, setiap strategi kesantunan dalam kerangka kerja ini bekerja dengan mekanisme yang berbeda dari strategi kesantunan yang lain serta bergantung kepada pertimbangan penutur tentang mekanisme yang paling efektif untuk meredam tindakan mengancam wajah (FTAs) dalam interaksi. Saran dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian selanjutnya difokuskan pada pembahasan tentang sub-strategi give deference dari strategi kesantunan negatif (negative politeness) sebagai salah satu fokus analisis penelitian dengan sumber data yang berbeda untuk menjelaskan tentang konsep honorifics atau julukan kehormatan. Kata Kunci: Strategi kesantunan bahasa, film, off-record, bald-on-record, positive politeness, dan negative politeness. ************************************************************ This study aims to identify the types of politeness strategies and describe their use in the utterances found in the film “Le Silence de la Mer (2004)”. The study is based on Brown and Levinson's (1987) politeness theory, which classifies politeness strategies into four types: off-record, bald-on-record, positive politeness, and negative politeness. The analysis focuses on eleven politeness sub-strategies drawn from these four major categories, namely give hints, metaphors, rhetorical questions, non-minimization, FTA-oriented, be conventionally indirect, be pessimistic, apologize, notice interests, avoid disagreement, and presuppose common ground. This study employed a qualitative approach using the content analysis method. The data were collected through documentation by identifying and categorizing utterances containing politeness strategies. The primary data source was the film “Le Silence de la Mer (2004)”, supported by secondary sources consisting of theoretical books and relevant scholarly articles. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's analytical framework, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data display in analytical tables, and conclusion drawing based on the interpretation of the classified data. The findings reveal a total of 30 utterances containing politeness strategies, consisting of eight utterances employing positive politeness, eight employing off-record, eight employing negative politeness, and six employing bald-on-record strategies. The results indicate that positive politeness, off-record, and negative politeness strategies occur with the same frequency, whereas bald-on-record is the least frequently used strategy. Brown and Levinson's (1987) four politeness strategies share the same communicative purpose, namely to mitigate the threat posed by face-threatening acts (FTAs). However, each strategy operates through a different mechanism and depends on the speaker's assessment of the most effective way to minimize FTAs in interaction. It is recommended that future research focus on the give deference sub-strategy of negative politeness using different data sources in order to provide a more comprehensive explanation of the concept of honorifics.
