Abstract
***** Urban green open spaces play an important role in maintaining environmental quality while providing habitats for various wildlife species, including birds. Bird diversity can be used as a bioindicator to assess the ecological quality of green open spaces because its presence is influenced by habitat conditions and vegetation structure. This study aimed to determine the level of bird species diversity, evaluate the quality of green open spaces using birds as bioindicators, and analyze the relationship between vegetation stratification complexity and bird species diversity at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. The study was conducted from June to July 2026 at Campus A and Campus B of Universitas Negeri Jakarta using a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach. Bird observations were carried out at nine plots using the point count method, while vegetation stratification complexity data were collected using the rapid vegetation survey method. Data were analyzed using the Shannon–Wiener Diversity Index (H'), the Green Open Space Quality Index (IKRTH), and the Spearman rank correlation test. The results showed that a total of 19 bird species belonging to 14 families, comprising 1,409 individuals, were recorded. The diversity index was classified as moderate. The assessment of green open space quality indicated a low category because the bird community was dominated by generalist species, whereas specialist species were recorded in relatively low numbers. The Spearman rank correlation test revealed that vegetation stratification complexity had a very weak and non-significant relationship with bird species diversity.
