Abstract

***** The study is aimed to analyze the effectiveness of English achievement test in SMK Tarakanita. A descriptive analysis was conducted to obtain the data by means of documentation, observation, questionnaire and interview. The test being analyzed was the second English Achievement Test of SMK Tarakanita students majoring in secretary. To get the whole points of an effective test, the study took 25 students majoring in secretary as the representatives of the population. The result of the study reveals that the content validity of the test is low with the percentage of 45%, but has high face validity of 76%. Thus, the reliability of the test is high, it can be seen in the internal consistency with the result of .992. Moreover, the test also fulfilled other criteria that covered studentrelated, test administration and test reliability. The test was also easy to administer, was not excessively expensive and stayed within appropriate time constraints, as a result the test has fulfilled the criteria of a practical test. Meanwhile, the respondents agreed that test is moderately authentic in the questionnaire’s result of 63%. Based on the finding, the study concludes that the second semester English achievement test of SMK Tarakanita is not effective. It is because from the 4 aspects that were analyzed, content validity as the core of the test appeared to be low (47%).. Therefore, further research recommended analyzing the validity of the test in a more complete way, not only seeing the sub competence, but in the aspect of communicative competence, theme or indicators. Moreover, the teacher is also recommended to redesign the concept of the test in the consideration of obtaining an effective way of assessing students in the future.
