Abstract

Skripsi ini mengkaji tentang bagaimana usaha Muhammadiyah dalam memperbaharui sistem pendidikan berbasis Islam di Indonesia. Penelitian skripsi ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui alasan Muhammadiyah melakukan pembaharuan sistem pendidikan berbasis Islam, bagaimana pembaharuan sistem pendidikan tersebut berlangsung, dan dampak apa saja yang ditimbulkan dari hadirnya pembaharuan sistem pendidikan berbasis Islam yang dikembangkan Muhammadiyah di Indonesia dari tahun 1911 sampai 1975. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam kajian ini adalah metode sejarah, yakni yang terdiri dari pengumpulan sumber (heuristik), kritik sumber (verifikasi), interpretasi, dan historiografi. Dalam tahap pengumpulan sumber penulis mengumpulkan sumber penulisan baik sumber primer seperti arsip dan wawancara, dan juga sumber sekunder seperti buku. Setelah data terkumpul, data tersebut diverifikasi secara kritik intern maupun ekstern. Setelahnya adalah interpretasi fakta dalam rangka menafsirkan berbagai sumber yang telah diuji keakuratannya. Hingga pada tahap akhir dilakukan penulisan dalam bentuk skripsi. Penelitian ini disajikan secara deskriptif-naratif, dengan menguraikan bagaimana peran Muhammadiyah dalam memperbaharui sistem pendidikan berbasis Islam di Indonesia dalam rentang tahun 1911 sampai 1975 secara naratif. Kajian dalam skripsi ini membahas latarbelakang Muhammadiyah dalam melakukan pembaharuan sistem pendidikan berbasis Islam yang terdiri dari lemahnya lembaga pendidikan Islam tradisional, dan gambaran umum sistem pendidikan di Hindia-Belanda. Selain itu juga dibahas mengenai pembaharuan sistem pendidikan yang dilakukan oleh Muhammadiyah dalam bidang kurikulum, model pembelajaran, metode pembelajaran, biaya pendidikan, tenaga pendidik, dan peserta didik yang dibagi dalam dua periode. Dan pembahasan yang terakhir adalah dampak-dampak yang ditimbulkan dari adanya upaya pembaharuan sistem pendidikan oleh Muhammadiyah dalam ruang lingkup pendidikan di Indonesia, seperti munculnya Undang-Undang yang mengatur pengajaran agama di sekolah-sekolah negeri, maupun munculnya lembaga pendidikan umum berbasis Islam di Indonesia. ****************************** This thesis examines the effort of Muhammadiyah to renew the Islamic based education system in Indonesia. This thesis research aims to find out the reasons of Muhammadiyah to renew Islamic based education system, how the implementation of that education system reform takes place, and what impact arises from the presence of renewed Islamic education system that was developed by Muhammadiyah in Indonesia from 1911 to 1975. The research method used in this study is the historical method, which consists of collecting sources (heuristics), source criticism (verification), interpretation and historiography. In the source collection phase the writer collects primary source such as archives and interview, and secondary source such as books. When the data is collected, then we verified the data by internal and external criticism. We interpret the facts in order to interpret the various sources that have been tested for the accuracy. At the final stage, the thesis is written. This research is presented in a descriptive-narrative way, describing the effort of Muhammadiyah to renew the Islamic based education system in Indonesia from 1911 to 1975, which is explained narratively. The study in this thesis also discusses the background of Muhammadiyah on renewing the Islamic based education system, which consist of the weakness of traditional Islamic education institution, and the general description of education system in Hindia-Belanda. Furthermore, this thesis also discusses the renewal of the education system that has been done by Muhammadiyah in area of curriculum, type of learning, method of learning, education fees, teacher, and student that divided into two periods. The last discussion is the impacts that caused by the Muhammadiyah’s effort to renew the education system towards education in Indonesia, such as the emergence of government law that regulate the religion subject teaching in the schools that owned by the government, and the emergence of Islamic based public education institution in Indonesia.
