Abstract

This study is aimed to determine the impacts of the development of financial innovations and non-cash payments on money supply in Indonesia during the period of 2015-2019. The independent variables used in this study are mobile payment, APMK, RTGS and Kliring. The proxies for each variable are transaction volume and transaction value. The dependent variable used in this study is money supplies both M1 and M2. The moderating variable used is inflation with the Consumer Price Index(CPI) as the indicator. The data used in this research are taken from statistics monthly reports publication of Bank of Indonesia and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia on CPI, transaction volumes and transaction values of mobile payment, APMK, RTGS and Kliring. The method used in this study is quantitative method using Error Correction Model and Moderated Regression Analysis. The results of this study indicate that the volume of mobile payment transactions have negative and significant effects on M1 both in the long and short terms. While it shows different results towards M2. It shows positive and significant effects in the long term, but it has negative and not significant effects in the short term. Non-cash payment variables, both APMK and Kliring, have a negative long-term and short-term effect on M1 and M2 in Indonesia, while the volume and value of RTGS transactions have no short-term and long-term effects on M1. The moderating variable enables to strengthen the transaction relationship between the use of mobile payment and non-cash payment with the money supply.
