Abstract

ABSTRAK Nilai karakter yang terdapat pada buku teks Bahasa inggris sebagai suatu bahan ajar terpenting di Indonesia. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) untuk mengungkap representasi nilai-nilai karakter yang ditetapkan oleh Kemendikbud dalam materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang tercakup dalam buku teks English in Mind kelas I SMP. (2) Mengidentifikasi nilai karakter dominan yang ditetapkan Kemendikbud dalam materi pembelajaran bahasa Inggris yang tercakup dalam buku teks English in Mind kelas 1 SMP. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif-kualitatif dengan menggunakan analisis isi. Data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini berupa teks di buku teks. Dalam penelitian ini, data kuantitatif juga digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan kemunculan data untuk mendukung temuan kualitatif. Instrumen utama penelitian adalah peneliti dan analisis tabel juga digunakan sebagai instrumen kedua. Beberapa langkah yang dilakukan selama pengumpulan data adalah: membaca teks, memahami bagian-bagian tertentu yang terkait dengan fokus penelitian, menandai bagian-bagian tertentu yang terkait dengan fokus penelitian, membuat deskripsi data disertai dengan proses coding dan memasukkan data ke dalam tabel. Dalam menganalisis data, penelitian ini menggunakan teknik analisis isi dengan membandingkan data, membuat kategorisasi, menyajikan tabulasi data, mendeskripsikan secara lisan, dan menginterpretasikan temuan untuk melakukan inferensi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 27 teks dalam buku teks bahasa Inggris yang berjudul English in Mind Starter Second Edition (Student's Book) Edisi Khusus terbitan Cambridge. Objek tersebut adalah 18 karakter yang dideskripsikan oleh Kemendikbud. Penelitian ini menggunakan kredibilitas, ketergantungan dan kesesuaian untuk memeriksa keterpercayaan data. Pertama, terkait kemunculan karakter, 16 karakter dari 18 karakter yang dideskripsikan Kemendikbud ditemukan dalam teks buku teks bahasa Inggris “English in Mind” Starter Second Edition (Student’s Book) Special Edition” terbitan Cambridge. Karakter keramahan / komunikasi dan Curiosity merupakan karakter yang paling dominan ditemukan dalam teks dengan 10 data atau 17%. Hal tersebut tersirat bahwa penulis ingin meningkatkan keramahan / komunikasi siswa kepada sesama dan meningkatkan keingintahuan untuk mendapatkan pengetahuan yang lebih umum tentang siswa. Kata kunci: nilai karakter , buku teks Bahasa inngris, kurikulum 2013, ************* ABSTRACT The character value contained in English textbooks is one of the most important teaching materials in Indonesia The objectives of this research were (1) to reveal the representation of the character values stipulated by Kemendikbud in the English learning materials covered in the English in Mind textbook for the first grade of junior high school and (2) to identify the dominant character value stipulated by Kemendikbud in the English learning materials covered in the English in Mind textbook for the first grade of junior high school This study was descriptive-qualitative approach using content analysis. The data used in this study were in the forms of texts in the textbook. In this research, the quantitative data were also used to describe the occurrence of the data to support the qualitative findings. The primary instrument of the research was the researcher and the table analysis were also employed as the second instrument. Some steps were undertaken during the data collection: reading the texts, understanding specific parts related to the research focus, marking certain parts related to the research focus, making a description of the data accompanied by a coding process and inserting the data into the table. In analyzing data, this study used content analysis technique by comparing the data, making categorization, presenting data tabulation, describing verbally, and interpreting the findings to do the inferences .The subjects were 27 texts in English textbook entitled English in Mind Starter Second Edition (Student’s Book) Special Edition published by Cambridge. The objects were the 18 characters described by Kemendikbud. This research used credibility, dependability and conformability to check the trustworthiness of the data. First, related to the occurrence of characters, 16 characters of 18 character described by Kemendikbud were found in the texts of an English textbook “English in Mind” Starter Second Edition (Student’s Book) Special Edition” published by Cambridge. Friendliness/communication and Curiosity character was the most dominant character found in the texts with 10 data or 17%. It implied that the author wanted to raise the students’ Friendliness/communication to the others and to increase curiosity to get more general knowledge of student.
