Abstract

Academic burdens and situations that demand to adapt quickly tothe new normal due to pandemics that occur and changes in the lecture system pose a risk to psychological problems in students, this coupled with the risk of loss of feelings of connectedness with friends or sources of support are factors that also make it difficult for students to deal with stress experienced, especially ifthe home environment is not conducive. This study aims to complete the study of pandemics in Indonesia by looking at the effect of social support on psychological distress in students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.A total of 250 respondents who live in DKI Jakarta, remain active students from universities that are registered in DKI Jakarta, and student lives in settlements that are positive confirmed COVID-19 more than 17 cases became the criteria in this study. This research method is quantitative using the Hopkins Symptoms Checklist-25 (HSCL-25) to measure psychological distress and the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS) to measure social support. Research conducted through social media and Google forms in data collection. This study shows that there is a negative influence between social support on psychological distress in students affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This can be interpreted that the higher the social support toward students, the lower the level of psychological distress on students, conversely the lower the social support toward students, the higher the level of psychological distress on students. Social support contributed 14.4% in predicting psychological distress in students, while 76% of participants were in the high psychological distress category
