Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui cara belajar yang digunakan mahasiswa dalam membaca teks Bahasa Inggris pada mata kuliah MPK Bahasa Inggris. Cara belajar yang dilakukan tersebut tertuang dalam strategi membaca, model membaca, dan teknik membaca yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa di kelas MPK Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Ekonomi dan Bisnis Universitas Indonesia yang berlangsung pada semester ganjil tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk mendeskripsikan cara belajar yang digunakan mahasiswa dalam pelajaran membaca pada mata kuliah MPK Bahasa Inggris, yang tertuang dalam strategi membaca, model membaca, dan teknik membaca serta untuk mengetahui strategi mana yang paling banyak digunakan dalam membaca teks bahasa Inggris. Data penelitian diperoleh dari 55 responden dengan menggunakan Survey of Reading Strategy (SORS) yang diadopsi dari survey yang dilakukan oleh Kouider Mokhtari dan Ravi Sheorey (2002), angket Model Membaca dan angket Teknik Membaca. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam proses pembelajaran di kelas MPK Bahasa Inggris FEB UI penggunaan strategi membaca cenderung tinggi yaitu 91%, dan strategi membaca yang paling banyak digunakan oleh siswa dalam proses pembelajaran adalah Problem-solving (76%). dengan model membaca Top-down (93%), dikombinasikan dengan teknik membaca Scanning (64%). Hasil yang diperoleh menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata siswa memiliki kemampuan untuk mengontrol kemampuan kognitifnya, terutama pada saat mengalami masalah dalam membaca. The purpose of this study is to describe the reading strategies, reading models, and reading techniques used by students in the English MPK class at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, in the odd semester of the 2019/2020 school year. The qualitative descriptive research method applied to describe students' understanding of reading strategies, reading models, and reading techniques as well as to find out which strategies are most widely used in reading English texts. The research data were obtained from 55 respondents using the Survey of Reading Strategy (SORS) which was adopted from a survey made by Kouider Mokhtari and Ravi Sheorey (2002), questionnaire on Reading Models and questionnaire on Reading Techniques. The results showed that in the learning process in the English MPK class at FEB UI, the use of reading strategies tended to be high at 91%, and the most used reading strategy by students in the learning process was Problem-Solving Strategy (76%) with Top-down Reading Models ( 93% ), combined with Scanning Reading technique (64^). The results obtained showed that students had the ability to control their cognitive skills, especially when they encountered problems in reading.
