Abstract

Nilai-nilai gotong royong dapat ditanamkan dalam buku teks Bahasa Inggris sebagai suatu bahan ajar terpenting di Indonesia. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisa semua ungkapan yang mengandung nilai gotong royong dari buku yang berjudul “English in Mind Second Edition (Student’s Book Starter) Special Edition yang digunakan oleh seluruh siswa kelas 7 SMP Islam Al-Azhar di Indonesia, dan juga untuk menggambarkan sejauh mana buku tersebut mengandung nilai gotong royong. Dalam pengumpulan data, pendekatan analisa konten dilakukan dengan mengacu pada indicator nilai-nilai gotong royong yang bersumber dari Kemendikbud dan beberapa referensi lain. Studi menemukan bahwa (1) terdapat sejumlah 172 ungkapan yang dinilai mengandung unsur gotong royong yang tergolong dalam enam bentuk, 10.47% terdiri dari nilai penguatan di lingkungan, 14.53% terdiri dari nilai komitmen kelompok, 12.21% terdiri dari nilai kerelawanan, 23.84% terdiri dari nilai hubungan komunikatif , 13.95% terdiri dari nilai kebersamaan, dan yang paling banyak dari semuanya adalah nilai toleransi dengan 25% dari keseluruhan ungkapan, (2) masing-masing dari enam bentuk nilai gotong royong memiliki ciri khas yang ditandai dengan kata kunci, dan (3) Nilai gotong royong memiliki bagian yang utama dalam buku teks, dimana nilai-nilai gotong royong terdapat di semua bagian pada bahan ajar dalam buku teks tersebut, terutama nilai toleransi dengan jumlah terbanyak dan beberapa kata kunci seragam yang memperkuat kandungan nilai gotong royong pada buku teks tersebut. Values of mutual cooperation can be implemented in English textbooks as one crucial English learning tool in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze all of the utterances that represent values of mutual cooperation in the English textbook entitled “English in Mind Second Edition (Student’s Book Starter) Special Edition used by seventh graders in Al-Azhar Islamic Junior High Schools in Indonesia and to provide an appropriate description regarding to what extent the value of mutual cooperation is being encouraged in the textbook. In data collection, content analysis approach was applied following the indicators of values of mutual cooperation from Kemendikbud and other sources. The findings show that (1) an amount of 172 utterances has considered having values of mutual cooperation from six different kinds of values of mutual cooperation, 10.47% consists of values of reinforcement, 14.53% consists of values of group commitment, 12.21% consists of values of volunteering, 23.84% consists of values of communicative interaction, 13.95% consists of values of togetherness, and the most among others is values of tolerance with the amount of 25% of the total utterances, (2) each of the six different kinds of values of mutual cooperation has different characteristics indicated by keywords, and (3) to an extent, values of mutual cooperation plays a major part that they are exist in every section of the materials in the textbook, especially the value of tolerance which is the most value among other values of mutual cooperation and similar keywords encouraging values of mutual cooperation in every section of the textbook.
