Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to find out wether correlation exists between (1) students’ reading habits, (2) knowledge about structure, (3) capability of creative thinking and (4) academic writing skills. This study conducted in Faculty of Education and Teacher Training in Bengkulu University. The study was carried out from the beginning of September to the end of December 2015. 69 students of FKIP Bengkulu University who were selected through total sampling. A Survey with test and questionnaire techniques has been employed to collect data then analyzed by descriptive and inferential. The result of analysis suggests that positive correlation exist between (1) students’ reading habits and their academic writing skills, (2) knowledge about structure and their academic writing skills, (3) capability of creative thinking and their academic writing skills, and (4) students’ reading habits, knowledge about structure, and capability of creative thinking, on the one hand, and academic writing skills. Keyword: Reading Habits, Knowledge Structure, Ability Creative Thinking and Academic Writing Skills For College student **** Penelitian ini bertujuan mandapatkan data dan membahas hubungan tentang: (1) kebiasaan membaca mahasiswa, (2) pengetahuan structure, (3) berpikirkreatif, dengan(4) keterampilan menulis akademik.Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Universitas Bengkulu dalam waktu empat bulan terhitung sejak awal bulan September sampai dengan akhir bulan Desember 2015. Teknik pengambilan sampel dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teknik total sampling yaitu sebanyak 69 orang mahasiswa. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan kuesioner, dan test. Data dianalisis menggunakan analisis deskriptif dan analisis inferensial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; 1)kebiasaan membaca mempunyai hubungan yang positif dengan keterampilan menulis akademik, 2) pengetahuan structuremempunyai hubungan positif dengan keterampilan menulis akademik, 3) berpikirkreatif mempunyai hubungan positif dengan keterampilan menulis akademik, 4) kebiasaan membaca, pengetahuan structure, dan berpikirkreatif secara bersama-sama mempunyai hubungan positif dengan keterampilan menulis akademik.
