Abstract

ABSTRACT THE CRISIS IDENTITY OF THE MAIN CHARACTER IN THE BLUEST EYE BY TONI MORRISON (A Literature Psychology Study) This study aims to show how the identity crisis of the main character occurs, the type of identity crisis and the factors that influence the development of the identity of the main character, Pecola, by using Erikson's development theory and Marcia's identity status theory. This study uses descriptive qualitative research through psychological research with content analysis. Data collection has been taken from a novel called The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison, selected and screened to find out among those who support this research. The steps are data analysis and data validity. Because of the social environment / social context, namely family, peers, school / teacher, ethnicity, gender, social class, character, and racism greatly affects Pecola‘s life, the result her identity cannot be developed. She has become more and more oppressed and abused as a result of racism, which leads to her self-loath by believing that having blue eyes is the only hope to escape from the suffering she experiences. This is an identity crisis because she wants to change her identity and become a white so that she will be loved and accepted by her parents, peers, teachers and the environment. This drove her crazy. Keywords: Crisis identity, social context, Erikson's development theory and Marcia's identity status theory. ************ ABSTRAK KRISIS IDENTITAS PADA TOKOH UTAMA DALAM NOVEL THE BLUEST EYE KARYA TONI MORRISON (Sebuah Kajian Psikologi Sastra) Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menunjukkan bagaimana krisis identitas diri tokoh utama terjadi, jenis krisis identitas dan faktor-faktor yang memengaruhi pengembangan identitas tokoh utamanya, Pecola, dengan menggunakan teori tahapan perkembangan Erikson dan teori status identitas Marcia. Penelitian ini menggunakan penelitian kualitatif desktriptif melalui pendekatan psikologi sastra dengan tehnik analisis isi. Pengumpulan data telah diambil dari novel berjudul The Bluest Eye oleh Toni Morrison, dipilih dan disortir untuk mencari tahu berapa banyak di antara mereka yang mendukung penelitian ini. Hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa terjadinya krisis identitas pada diri Pecola karena lingkungan sosial/ konteks sosial, yaitu keluarga, teman sebaya, sekolah/ guru, etnis, jender, kelas sosial, tokoh identifikasi dan rasisme sangat memengaruhi kehidupan Pecola, akibatnya identitasnya tidak dapat dikembangkan. Pecola mengalami banyak penindasan dan pelecehan sebagai akibat dari rasisme, yang menyebabkan dia membenci dirinya sendiri. Dia percaya memiliki mata biru adalah satu-satunya harapan untuk melarikan diri dari penderitaan yang dialaminya. Ini adalah krisis identitas karena dia ingin mengubah identitasnya dan menjadi orang kulit putih agar ia disayang dan diterima oleh orang tuanya, teman sebaya, guru dan lingkungannya. Ini mendorongnya menjadi gila. Kata kunci: Krisis identitas, konteks sosial, teori tahapan perkembangan psikososial Erikson, dan teori status identitas Marcia
