Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan 1) mendeskripsikan cara meningkatkan keterampilan membaca kritis siswa kelas 5 D melalui metode discovery learning, dan 2) mengetahui metode discovery learning dapat meningkatkan keterampilan membaca kritis siswa di kelas 5 D Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah 14 Palembang, Sumatera Selatan. Metode penelitian ini yaitu penelitian tindakan model Elliott yang terdiri atas 3 siklus dan 3 tindakan pada masing-masing siklus. Fokus penelitian adalah untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca kritis siswa melalui metode discovery learning. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian partisipatif dan kolaboratif. Subjek penelitian yaitu siswa kelas 5 D Sekolah Dasar Muhammadiyah 14 Palembang, Sumatera Selatan tahun pembelajaran 2018/2019 berjumlah 32 siswa (17 siswa laki-laki dan 15 siswa perempuan). Teknik pengumpul data menggunakan tes kemampuan siswa, angket, observasi, wawancara, catatan harian, analisis dokumen, bukti foto, dan rekaman video & transkrip. Hasil penelitian ini, yaitu: 1) keterampilan membaca kritis dapat ditingkatkan pada siklus 1 dengan menggunakan metode discovery learning dan dibantu dengan media berupa kertas warna, spidol, lakban, diskusi kelompok, penggunaan soal esai perkelompok dan individu. Siklus 2 sama seperti siklus 1 dengan penambahan bantuan media pembelajaran berupa laptop dan proyektor, panduan penemuan (a guidline of discovery) keterampilan membaca kritis, reward, dan lembar pertanyaan untuk tugas kelompok dan individu. Pada siklus 3 tidak dapat ditingkatkan lagi meski telah menggunakan metode discovery learning, pendekatan individu, panduan penemuan (a guidline of discovery) keterampilan membaca kritis, dan lembar pertanyaan untuk tugas individu. 2) Hasil belajar siswa mengalami peningkatan pada siklus 1 sebesar 41%, siklus 2 sebesar 91%, dan mengalami penurunan pada siklus 3 menjadi 33%. Nilai rata-rata tiap indikator keterampilan membaca kritis mengalami peningkatan pada siklus 1 sebesar 42%, siklus 2 sebesar 100%, dan mengalami penurunan pada siklus 3 menjadi 0%. Ketaktercapaian ketuntasan hasil belajar dan indikator keterampilan membaca kritis pada siklus 3 disebabkan tiga orang siswa yang diberikan tindakan tersebut adalah siswa yang memerlukan perhatian khusus.. Kata kunci: metode discovery learning, keterampilan membaca kritis, penelitian tindakan model Elliott *********** This study aims 1) to describe how to improve the critical reading skills of grade 5 D students through discovery learning methods, and 2) to find out that discovery learning methods can improve students' critical reading skills in grade 5 D Muhammadiyah Elementary School 14 Palembang South Sumatra. The research method in this research is Elliott's model of action research which consists of 3 cycles and 3 actions in each cycle and is focused on improving students' critical reading skills. This research is participatory and collaborative research. The research subjects were students in grade 5 D Muhammadiyah Elementary School 14 Palembang South Sumatra for the 2018/2019 academic year totaling 32 students (17 male students and 15 female students). Data collection techniques used student ability test, questionnaires, observations, interviews, daily notes, document analysis, photo evidence, and video recordings & transcripts. The results of this study, namely: 1) Cycle 1 critical reading skills can be improved using the discovery learning method and assisted by colored paper media, markers, duct tape, group discussions, use of group and individual essay questions. Cycle 2 is the same as cycle 1 with the addition of learning media assistance in the form of a laptop and projector, a guideline of discovery critical reading skills, rewards, and question sheets for group assignments and individual assignments. However, cycle 3 cannot be improved even though it uses discovery learning methods, individual approaches, critical reading skills discovery guides, and question sheets for individual assignments. 2) The learning outcomes of grade 5 D students at Muhammadiyah Elementary School 14 Palembang South Sumatra experienced an increase in cycle 1 by 41%, cycle 2 by 91%, and decreased in cycle 3 to 33%. The average value of each indicator of critical reading skills increased in cycle 1 by 42%, cycle 2 by 100%, and decreased in cycle 3 to 0%. The non-achievement of learning outcomes and indicators of critical reading skills in cycle 3 is caused by that the three students who were given action are students who needs specific consideration.
