Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh karakteristik Chief Executive Officer (CEO) terhadap kinerja perusahaan pada perusahaan sektor food and beverage di Indonesia, Malaysia, dan Singapura periode 2013 – 2018. Variabel bebas yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah karakteristik CEO yang diproksikan dengan gender, tenure, age, education, nationality. Variabel terikat yang digunakan adalah kinerja perusahaan yang diproksikan dengan Return On Asset (ROA), Return On Equity (ROE), Return On Sales (ROS) dan Tobin’s Q. Penelitian ini menggunakan variabel kontrol yang terdiri dari independence commisioner, board size, board diversity, board meeting, leverage, sales growth, ukuran perusahaan, likuiditas, arus kas, dan usia perusahaan. Sampel dalam penelitian adalah 50 perusahaan food and beverage yang terdiri dari 16 perusahaan Indonesia, 19 perusahaan Malaysia, dan 15 perusahaan Singapura. Metode pengambilan sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teknik purposive sampling. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah regresi data panel. Hasil pada penelitian menunjukkan karakteristik CEO yang diproksikan dengan CEO gender, CEO tenure, CEO age dan CEO education tidak memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kinerja perusahaan. Namun, CEO nationality memiliki pengaruh yang signifikan terhadap kinerja perusahaan pada Tobin’s Q di Indonesia, Malaysia dan Singapura. Kata kunci: Kinerja Perusahaan, Karakteristik CEO, CEO Gender, CEO Tenure, CEO Age, CEO Education, CEO nationality dan Corporate Governance. The aim of this study is to determine the effect of Characteristics Chief Executive officer (CEO) on the firm performance of food and beverage firms in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore period of 2013 - 2018. Independent variable used in this study is characteristics CEO proxied by gender, tenure, age, education and nationality. Dependent variable used in this study is firm performance proxied by Return on Asset (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), Return on Sales (ROS) and Tobin’s Q. Then control variable in this study are independence commisioner, board size, board diversity, board meeting, leverage, sales growth, firm size, liquidity, cash flow, and firm age. The sample in this study was 50 food and beverage firms consisting of 16 Indonesian firms, 19 Malaysian firms and 15 Singapore firms.The sampling method of this study is purposive sampling. The data analysis used is panel data regression. The resuls in this study indicate that CEO characteristics proxied by CEO gender. CEO tenure, CEO age and CEO education does not have significant effect on firm performance. However, CEO nationality has a significant effect on firm performance measured by Tobin’s Q in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
