Abstract

Poisson regression is one of regression model which uses discrete data forthe response variable. The response variable should follow a Poisson distri-bution, with assumption of the mean is equal to the variance of the responsevariable called equidispersion. But in reality, discrete data barely follows thePoisson distribution. An alternative model to process discrete data without fo-llowing equidispersion is by using generalized Poisson regression (GPR). GPRadds a dispersion parameterθto solve non-equidispersion model. The parame-ters are estimated using maximum likelihood with Newton-Raphson. Geneticsalgorithm in GPR is used to select the explanatory variables through series ofprocedures such as selection, crossover, and mutation to get the least error, which is calculated by the deviance of the model. The model with least devian-ce will result in small Akaike Information Criteria (AIC) score, thus will bechosen as the best GPR model. Keywords: optimization, overdispersion, generalized Poisson regression, ge-netics algorithm, variable selection.
