Abstract

Indonesia dengan ragam budayanya memiliki banyak sekali cerita rakyat. Cerita rakyat ini diwariskan secara turun-temurun dengan berbagai cara, salah satunya dengan dongeng. Dongeng bersifat menghibur dan mengandung nilai moral maupun budaya.(Dudung dalam Habsari, 2017:23). Akan tetapi kondisi dongeng dengan masyarakat saat ini tidak begitu dekat. Hal ini dapat diperhatikan dari minimnya perhatian pada media penyebaran dongeng tersebut. Penciptaan karya seni ini bertujuan untuk menciptakan photobook bertema dongeng dengan teknik mattepainting. Berfungsi sebagai alternatif media penyebaran dongeng di Indonesia yang dapat menarik minat masyarakat era saat ini terhadap dongeng. Metode pengambilan data yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dimana perupa melakukan observasi terhadap produk sejenis dan wawancara secara mendalam kepada konsumen terkait karakter dan ketertarikan desain, kemudian membuat survei menggunakan kuesioner yang di tujukan untuk responden yang memenuhi kualifikasi segmentasi konsumen. Konsep dari perancangan ini merupakan photobook bertemakan dongeng Jawa Barat: Asal-Usul Desa Watubelah yang dibagi menjadi tiga bagian cerita dan dirangkai dengan teknik mattepainting. Mattepainting merupakan teknik yang biasa digunakan di industri film untuk menciptakan latar belakang imajinatif. Secara keseluruhan penciptaan karya ini melalui beberapa proses, diantaranya: Praproduksi, produksi, dan pascaproduksi. Mattepainting pada karya dirancang melalui berbagai eksplorasi, dan melalui uji validasi ahli kemudian disusun dalam bentuk photobook. Hasil karya yang ditampilkan pada penciptaan ini adalah buku seri terdiri dari tiga sub judul: “Pangeran Walasungsang”, “Ki Patih Manik”, dan “Watubelah”. Indonesia with its diverse culture has a lot of folklore. This folklore is passed down from generation to generation in various ways, one of which is by fairy tales. Fairy tales are entertaining and contain moral and cultural values. (Dudung in Habsari, 2017:23). However, the condition of fairy tales with society today is not so close. This can be seen from the lack of attention to the media for spreading the fairy tale. The purpose of this work is aims to create a fairy tale-themed photobook using the mattepainting technique. Serves as an alternative medium for spreading fairy tales in Indonesia that can attract people's interest in the current era. The data collection method used is a qualitative method where the artist makes observations on similar products and in-depth interviews with consumers regarding the character and design interests, then makes a survey using a questionnaire aimed at respondents who meet the qualifications of consumer segmentation. The concept of this design is a photobook with the theme of the West Java fairy tale: The Origin of Watube Village which is divided into three parts and arranged in a mattepainting technique. Mattepainting is a technique commonly used in the film industry to create imaginative backgrounds. Overall, the creation of this work went through several processes, including: Pre-production, production, and post-production. Mattepainting on the work is designed through various explorations, and through expert validation tests then compiled in the form of a photobook. The work displayed in this creation is a book series consisting of three subtitles: “PangeranWalasungsang”, “Ki Patih Manik”, and “Watubelah”.
