Abstract

The background of the creation of this work is based on the negative stigma against brown-skinned women that occurs in the community. This fact was obtained from a 2020 survey regarding the anxiety experienced by brown-skinned women regarding skin color which is still underestimated. This stigma creates an internal response from the artist in the form of creating works of art by applying one of the textile craft techniques, namely embroidery. The application of embroidery art by displaying visually written embroidery containing an optimistic message is intended to give positive energy and encourage an optimistic spirit towards brown-skinned women. A study related to the market interest into embroidery art and its implementation in outerwear products for women was conducted through a survey in 2020. The creation of the work aims to introduce message and embroidery to early adult female aged 21- 25 years. Early adulthood according to Santrock's theory is a period of physically, intellectually and socially transition so they able to understand the message and aim behind the work. The creation of embroidered writing on women's outerwear that contains optimistic messages and responding to the latest fashion color trends may generate appreciation from the public. The product has been tested in 2021 against public interest and the result shows that the product is suitable and can be widely distributed to introduce the embroidery art and send optimism message.
