Abstract

Studi ini menganalisa disposisi politik dari kasus Reynhard Sinaga yang melibatkan tindak kejahatan pemerkosaan dan kekerasan seksual yang bersumber dari dua outlet berita, yaitu outlet berita BBC dan Jakarta Pos. Dengan menggunakan teori penilaian oleh J.R. martin dan P.R.R. White, beserta dengan analisis diskurs berorientasi tekstual oleh Norman Fairclough. Ketika masalah tersebut didiskusikan dengan mengaplikasikan teori yang sudah disebutkan yang diiringi dengan pendekatan deskriptif analitika, perbedaan daripada disposisi politik dari setiap outlet berita tersebut, yang mana Reynhard Sinaga itu sendiri menjadi jauh lebih jelas dan nampak, yang dapat dilihat dari sudut pandang predator seksual tersebut dengan korban prianya, beserta dengan elemen pusat daripada berita itu sendiri. Dalam outlet berita BBC, mereka menunjukkan ketidaksukaan yang mendalam dan disertai dengan penjelasan gambling mengenai kasus tersebut dan representasi Reynhard Sinaga dengan mengutip dan menulis artikel berita mereka berdasarkan pihak-pihak yang terlibat dalam kasus tersebut, seperti para korban, pihak penegak hukum, dan layanan bantuan moral. Disposisi Reynhard Sinaga berpusat pada kutipan-kutipan tersebut dengan tujuan untuk memperkuat pandangan terhadap Reynhard Sinaga sebagai seorang predator seksual dan orang yang jahat. Kebalikannya, outlet berita Jakarta Pos menarik pusatnya ke arah yang lain, yang mana mereka justru merepresentasikan Reynhard Sinaga sebagai aib bagi negara asalnya, yaitu Indonesia, yang mana mereka menuliskan kasus tersebut dengan memusatkan pandangannya terhadap reaksi penduduk Indonesia, dan kekaguman jurnalis terhadap penegak hukum Inggris dalam mengatasi kasus tersebut. Dengan demikian, outlet Jakarta Pos membuat representasi tersebut tidak sesempit outlet berita BBC dikarenakan sudut pandang mereka yang meluas dengan menuliskan reaksi dari komunitas warga, daripada tingkat keburukan dari kejahatan Reynhard Sinaga terhadap korban-korban prianya. This study analyses the political disposition of Reynhard Sinaga’s case that had involved the crime of rape and sexual assault from two news editorials, BBC News and The Jakarta Post news. By utilizing appraisal theory by J.R. Martin and P.R.R. White, as well as Textual Oriented Discourse Analysis by Norman Fairclough. When the issue was being discussed by the application of the mentioned theories and approached by descriptive analytical means, the differences of Reynhard Sinaga’s political disposition stated between the news editorials became clearer and visible from the perspectives of the sexual predator and the male victims, and the element that made the centre of the news. In BBC News, the news editorials showed a great despise as well as photographic depictions of the case and the representation of Reynhard Sinaga by quoting and sourcing the text from the parties involved with the case, such as the victims, law enforcement, and the support system. The disposition of Reynhard Sinaga was centred around those quotation in purpose to reinforce the idea of Reynhard Sinaga as a sexual predator and an evil human being. On the opposite, The Jakarta Post News took a turn, and instead showed Reynhard Sinaga as a shame towards his home country, Indonesia, as they discussed the case by centring around the reaction of Indonesian Citizen, and the admiration they showed towards United Kingdom’s law enforcement in handling the case, therefore they make the representation of Reynhard Sinaga as not as monotone as BBC news, since they brought the reaction of the community, instead of the severity of Reynhard Sinaga’s crime towards his victims.
