Abstract

This study analyzed about hostile sexism and rape myth that perpetuate inside the news articles that covered about a gang rape case that involved a 19 years old Dalit women, in Hathras, India. The data used inside this study are 2 news articles from India Today, and 2 news articles from The Indian Express, where the context of the news articles are related to the rape case. The data sampling are words, clauses, phrases, and sentences inside the news articles, analyzed with the help of a textual method from Norman Fairclough called Textually Oriented Discourse Analysis (TODA), transitivity system by M. A. K Halliday, and appraisal theory conducted by J. R Martin, P. R. R White, and Rose to see each journalist stance and how they positioned themselves around this case. There is a significant difference found in between the journalists of these two portal news in positioning themselves about this gang rape case. India Today shown the stance where rape myth could happen by siding with authorities who denied about rape in the case, different with The Indian Express journalist who directly show their stance in standing alongside with the victim. ********** Studi ini menganalisa hostile sexism dan juga rape myth yang terdapat di dalam pemberitaan mengenai pemerkosaan berkelompok yang terjadi di Hathras, India, atas seorang gadis Dalit berumur 19 tahun. Sumber data yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah 2 berita dari India Today, dan 2 berita dari The Indian Express, dimana konteks dari setiap beritanya berhubungan dengan kasus pemerkosaan tersebut. Data yang digunakan berupa setiap kata, klausa, dan juga kalimat di dalam artikel berita yang kemudian dianalisa menggunakan metode tekstual Norman Fairclough, Textually Oriented Discourse Analysis (TODA), sistem transitifitas M. A. K Halliday, dan juga teori appraisal yang dikembangkan J. R Martin, P. R. R White, dan juga Rose untuk melihat bagaimana masing-masing jurnalis menempatkan diri dan juga posisi mereka di dalam kasus ini. Ada perbedaan signifikan di antara para jurnalis dari kedua portal berita tersebut dalam memposisikan diri mereka atas kasus ini. Jurnalis dari India Today memperlihatkan keberpihakan mereka terhadap pihak yang menentang mengenai adanya pemerkosaan, sementara jurnalis The Indian Express memperlihatkan bahwa mereka secara penuh berpihak dengan para korban.
