Abstract

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menafsirkan kosmopolitanisme dalam novel Gentayangan karya Intan Paramaditha dengan menggunakan pendekatan pascakolonial, sastra perjalanan Carl Thompson. Untuk dapat mencapai tujuan tersebut, maka penelitian ini akan menganalisis tiga aspek sastra perjalanan Carl Thompson, yakni representasi dunia, representasi yang lain, dan pengungkapan diri. Hasil dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kosmopolitanisme mulai muncul ketika tokoh Kau melakukan perkelanaan ke berbagai tempat dan bertemu dengan tokoh-tokoh yang memiliki berbagai latar belakang. Menariknya, meski kosmopolitanisme terlihat pada diri tokoh Kau, akan tetapi narator justru memberikan pesan tersirat bahwa untuk menuju dunia kosmopolitanisme sepenuhnya adalah hal yang utopis. Kata kunci: kosmopolitanisme, pascakolonial, sastra perjalanan Carl Thompson, Gentayangan.  ********** ABSTRACT This study aims to interpret the cosmopolitanism in the novel Gentayangan the work of Intan Paramaditha using the approach of the postcolonial, travel writing Carl Thompson. To achieve these objectives, this research will analyze three aspects of the travel literature of Carl Thompson, Representing the World, Representing the Other, and Revealing the Self. The results of this study show that cosmopolitanism began to appear when the character Kau, traveled to different places and met with other characters who had different backgrounds. Interestingly, although cosmopolitanism appears in the character Kau, the narrator gives the message implied that the world of cosmopolitanism is utopian.
