Abstract

Pemberdayaan perempuan dianggap sebagai isu penting karena dimana laki-laki cenderung mendominasi di lingkungan masyarakat. Secara sadar maupun implisit, masyarakat menganut doktrin yang menyatakan bahwa laki-laki lebih unggul dari perempuan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merepresentasikan kekuatan perempuan di abad ke Sembilan belas yang berkembang dalam kepribadian tokoh utama wanita, yaitu Josephine March pada novel Little Women karya Louisa May Alcott. Penelitian ini kemudian dibongkar dengan menggunakan pendekatan feminisme khususnya Teori Feminisme Gelombang Ketiga karena karakteristik Josephine March cocok dengan karakteristik feminis Gelombang ketiga. Josephine March mengekspresikan dirinya tanpa mengkhawatirkan persepsi orang lain tentang dirinya. Penelitian ini terutama menggunakan teori Feminisme Gelombang ketiga oleh Naomi Rockler Gladen. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pemeran utama wanita dalam novel Little Women, Josephine March merepresentasikan kekuatan perempuan yang memiliki karakteristik diantaranya, menciptakan identitas pribadi secara mandiri sebagai perempuan, berani menyuarakan pendapat dan mengekspresikan emosinya di depan umum, perempuan penyintas bukan korban, berani mengekspresikan pilihan seksualnya, dan mampu menggunakan kekuatan pribadinya sebagai perempuan untuk membela ketidakadilan. Women’s empowerment is considered as an important issue because men tend to dominate in society. Consciously or implicitly, society adheres to the doctrine that men are superior to women. This study aims to represent the girl power in the nineteenth century that developed in the personality of the main female character, namely Josephine March in Little Women novel by Louisa May Alcott. In revealing the process of girl power representation, feminism approach especially Third Wave Feminism Theory are deployed in this study as Josephine March’s characteristics suits third wave characteristics. She expresses herself without worrying about others people perception. This study mainly uses Naomi Rockler Gladen theory of Third Wave of Feminism. The results of this study demonstrates that the main female character in Little Women novel, Josephine March represents the girl power who have characteristics including, creating their own identity as a woman, daring to voice their opinions in public, daring to express their emotions in public, daring to express their sexual choice, and being able to use her personal power as a woman to defend injustice.
